It's Friday!!!!

Where did the week go??? I had plans on updating everyday and then the week flew by me.  I wasn't able to check this off my To Do list until today!  It was a great first full week.  It was wonderful to meet so many parents at Open House last night.  I hope that each parent will take a few minutes and write a letter to me about you so that I can learn more about my students. (Yes parents, this is your homework for the weekend.)   Learning about you helps me provide you with instruction/lessons that enable you to use your talents while learning.

The last two days we have been busy!

Thursday, August 16th - We reviewed the writing narrative pre-test that we
had taken on Wednesday.  I learned that there is a lot
of work to be done with parts of speech and
subject/verb agreement!  We also started discussing
                                         On Demand writing.

Friday, August 17th - We have completed our notes over On Demand writing
and were able to discuss the importance of audience
with a few activities.  I also passed out the parent letter
(see above), so I hope you made
                                     it home with the letter!

Don't forget to leave me a little comment if you want, just be careful about what you write! Once you submit your comment, then it is there for all to read!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Let the week begin!

Wow!! What a great start to the new year! Students, you have been wonderful...now the pressure begins to keep up the good work!  We have been busy getting to know one another and I am learning so much about each of you.  I've got plenty of gamers, athletes and One Direction fans, so my classes will be interesting and should have plenty to write about throughout the year.

Our assignments so far - (PLEASE) make sure that you are writing the lessons down in your planner daily!

Monday - August 13th - Free Writing time and I chart that is all about you!
Tuesday - August 14th - BW (list of adjectives that describe you) and then
develop an acrostic poem using your name as the subject.  Complete
a goal letter.  (First paragraph's goal is school/subject related.
Second paragraph's goal is for something you do outside of school.
Final paragraph should include your favorite things at the moment.)
We will revisit the letters again after Christmas break and again at the
end of the year.  Make the goals realistic and don't be afraid of being
               creative!
The I chart and goal letters were due today!

Don't forget picture day on Wednesday!!

Welcome Back!

WELCOME BACK!

It's hard to believe that our three month summer break is over, but I am excited to begin the new year.  Just a little about me, this is my 6th year of teaching and I'm back in language arts after two years teaching a reading class. I am a wife and mom of three sons.  Kyle will be a senior, Treyden is in 6th grade, and Quincy is in 2nd grade.  Yes, I will have a child in all three schools!  We are a football, baseball, soccer, and this year archery, family! We are busy!

I am ready to teach you all the great things I've learned this summer and helping you to become the writer you were meant to be..yes, you!  I will be writing along with you as well, so don't be nervous!

The purpose of this blog is to keep you up-to-date with assignments and topics we are discussing.  This year you will have a planner to help you stay more organized and you will be required to bring it to class and record your assignments.  Hopefully this will end the dicussion that happens when you get home from school.  You know the one...Parent: "What did you learn today?" You: "Nothing."  This blog will be beneficial for you to show your parents what you did, or them to see what you are learning.

I will be adding some educational links and videos for you to use at home and will use this to showcase your work!  Don't worry, it will never be without your permission.  We will discuss guidelines for this in class.

Well, ready or not...here we go!! Welcome to my class!
